The Sockeye Salmon runs are winding down in Alaska, Canada, and Washington. However, this doesn’t mean wild salmon season is over. After a short break in fishing, we are now seeing the fresh Coho (Silver) Salmon runs start to materialize. There will be both troll and net caught Cohos through mid-October.
Sockeyes are known for their fire engine red meat color. Cohos are a close second in meat color of all the wild salmon species. Cohos have their own unique, excellent flavor profile. Sockeyes typically run from 4-6 pounds, but Cohos can be up to 20 pounds.
Although Cohos are typically available all over Alaska, we are particularly excited about the Copper River Coho run that will be starting any day now. We will bringing these fish in at our processing facility in Cordova, AK, Prime Select Seafoods.
